Mahabalipuram Day excursion

Have early breakfast at Chennai. Surface to a full day excursion to Mahabalipuram. Visit THIRUKADALMALLAI, Shore temple UNESCO world heritage site overlooking the Bay of Bengal. Visit the world heritage sites of Mahabalipuram Panch Pandava Rathas five monolithic pyramidal chariot structures. named after the Pandavas (Arjuna, Bhima, Yudhishtra, Nakula and Sahadeva) and Draupadi , Ganesh Ratha temple carved out from a rock to resemble a chariot and is built in Dravidian style of temple architecture , Krishna’s Butterball huge boulder near Ganesha Ratha Arjuna’s Penance massive 7th Century open air Bas-relief known to be descent of Ganga – the Monolith 96 feet long and 43 feet high. The bas relief standing on one leg is known to be Arjuna performing tapa to receive a boon from shiva as an aid in fighting the Mahabharata war. Visit Amer fort – The Kachhawas ruled from Amer 11 Km from Jaipur for 7 centuries – Amber is handiwork of 3 kingdom rulers Man singh , Jai singh I and II . Ascending to the fort on elephant back entering through the grand singh pol (Imposing gateway painted with images of Ganesha) till Jaleb chowk the courtyard where visitors disembark from the elephant. From here there are two flight of steps – one leading to shila mata complex with its enshrined image of the goddess and the other to main palace complex. The part of the complex is Diwan-I-Am or hall of public audience (display of pillars) – Merging of Rajput and Mughal artitecture is captured in Sukh Niwas and Jas Mandir apartments – Charbagh garden has perfectly proportioned landscaping – highlight is the pierced screen windows offer views from points of vantage. – Sheesh Mahal has shimmering mirrors encrusting the wall – The fort also houses temples, step wells memorial and town houses. , Jantar Mantar and Stone Observatory created by Maharaja sawai jai singh II- concrete stonework instruments used to measure altitude , time and map movement of planets & stars – Jaipur observatory is largest of all others in Delhi , Banaras and Ujjain.
